Hi, once again this is the Part III of the learning from the best in business and entrepreneurship. This part will be focussing on other areas of business such as entertainment and media.

As you all know, no one can live by without some form of entertainment to relax or to pep us up. Entertainment is big business , many singers and artistes have become "filthy" rich just entertaining people. The media industry today is a multi-billion business. Sucessful business leaders in this field include Sir Richard Branson and Ted Turner. These two great and wealthy business leaders are the ones who make it big and rich in the entertainment and media business.

The "Virgin" king Sir Richard Branson is a maverick and there are lots of things we can learn from this unorthodox businessman. He is not like any other "traditional" rich magnate.

What are the things we can learn from the "apex" leader in entertainment and media industry?

a) To be successful, you need not follow what others do. Do things differently and do different things from the others so that you can become a leader in your field. It is not necessary to follow the beaten tracks or old paths. You can blaze your own trail of new directions and new paths. In fact, pioneering a new path or new trail requires more guts, more planning and more fun.

b) His philosophy is that you can have fun while working hard. Many business people are so serious and unfriendly inspite of the success. I see many rich people with frowns. They did not equate work with humour or fun. Actually Sir Richard Branson injects fun and humour into his work which he shares with the rest of us. "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy". See, you can have the cake and eat it.

c) Another thing you can learn from this rich and powerful media/entertainment tycoon is that you have to love what you do. This will give you a sense of joy when you enjoy the fruits of your labour. To be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour is an essential key to personal growth and wealth too. Many people work hard but they do not know how to enjoy the fruits of their labour. They become slaves to their endeavours. Sir Branson bears testimony to the fact that you can enjoy the fruits of your labour while earning big bucks at the same time.

This rich magnate Sir Branson is able to combine work and leisure and thus lead a very balanced life. I would like to be like him, having work and fun at the same time. As Confucius (a famous Chinese philosopher) said long ago, " if you like the work you are doing, you are not working at all, you are enjoying life..."

So let us do something we enjoy and reap the harvest of rich returns at the end of the day. There is no reason to become rich but unhappy. Like Sir Richard Branson, we can both balance our lives with things we enjoy and work with things we like to do. Sounds fun eh? Yes, go for it...
